4 Symptoms Of Eye Floaters That Need Immediate Attention Of An Ophthalmologist

Eye floaters is a eye condition in which the patient sees tiny spots, specks, flecks and cobwebs floating around the field of vision. The condition can be annoying and common in aged people that cannot be a cause of alarm.

This condition arises when tiny pieces of eye’s gel like vitreous break loose within the inner back portion of the eye. As a person ages the vitreous gel begins to dissolve to liquefy and a watery centre is created.

The centre of the retina, which is called as macula cannot support the liquid and the weight of the liquid and forces detachment from the retina. This condition would require mocualr surgery in Melbourne.

Few symptoms of the condition would require immediate visit to an ophthalmologist. Those signs include:

  • Flashes of light in the same eye which has floaters
  • Darkness on one side or both sides of the eye

These signs need immediate attention mainly because all these symptoms could be a result of retina tear, with or without retinal detachment.
