2 Common Symptoms That Need Immediate Detached Retina Surgery

Retinal detachment is a serious condition of the eye. It occurs when the central part of the eye pulls away from the back of the organ and blood supply as well. Without blood supply, the retina cells begin to die. This condition may lead to loss of vision permanently if detached retina surgery is not done immediately.

Detached Retina Surgery

Experts suggest that it is important for the patient to go to an emergency or contact the nearest ophthalmologist as soon as possible, who would suggest retina detachment surgery. During the surgery, the eye specialist would reattach the retina quickly to prevent any serious complications.

The problem with the central part of the eye happens when the vitreous liquid in the macula, retracts, pulling and tearing it. That tear can pull away from the back of the eye and detach the retina. Conditions like glaucoma, severe trauma, nearsightedness, previous cataract surgery, and previous retinal detachment in the other eye or family history could be the main cause of the conditions or could lead to severity of it.

The patients need to worry when they face symptoms of this serious condition. Few signs of this serious medical condition include:

  • Flashing lights and floaters are the initial symptoms. In many cases, these symptoms may not confirm retinal detachment as well.
  • The appearance of a shadow or curtain that affects part or complete vision. This critical condition needs immediate attention of the doctor.

This problem in the eye can occur at any age but are more common in adults after 40 years. Consulting the expert on feeling the initial symptoms could be of great help.
